One of the films in the DC Studios lineup that i feel like people were the most confused at was Clayface. Clayface was an odd pick me for at first i did not understand why the would greenlight this film before wonder woman or batman as they have seemed more important. James Gunn has maintaed though that if the scripts are good the projects will go into production so although Clayface seemed like an out of choice pick clearly James Gunn got a script he liked and the movie was officially Greenlit. We know that Mike Flannigan actually wrote the script and it was takes heavily from batman the animated series episodes feat of clay was the inspiration for this film. Later it was announced that James watkins was tapped with directing the film his recent work being speak no evil with James Mcavoy. Also, we found out that Rob Hardy was tasked with director of photography for this film his recent work being Supergirl. Hearing all these things had already changed my mind a bit on clayface i went from being somewhat skeptical about the film to being moderately excited but still unsure if this film was the right move. The only thing that would be able to sell me would be casting and then we got our first batch of actors who could maybe be our clayface. George Mackay, Tom Blythe, Jack O'Connell and Leo Woodall were the first ones to be in the role of clayface and i really wanted Jack O'Connell i thought he was amazing in sinners and thought this would be a great get for dc. After month of auditions they eventually landed on Welsh actor Tom Rhys Harries i have not seen to much of his work but James Gunn and matt reeves thought he killed his audition and said he was the best fit i trust them but if I'm being honest this casting did not do much for me only cause i have not seen much of his work. James Gunn also confirmed this movie will be rated R and will be like a blumhouse horror movie with a budget of 45M. I think this shows how much they wanna push that not everything will be superman this will be a horror movie through and through which i think is the best part. Also, i love that this movie will be take on how AI has affected the film industry, what we know from the plot right now is that a gangster will disfigure his face this will lead him to going to a scientist for help and it will work at first but it will end up turning horrific. The scientist i was interested in seeing who could potentially play that part as well then it was announced that Noami Ackie was being eyed and today got confirmed to be playing the role of the scientist and a love interest to clayface. I was immediately sold after seeing this casting cause i think Noami Ackie is a fantastic actor i loved her in mickey 17 and blink twice she was easily the standout of both of those movies for me. Matt Minghella was also cast as detective who is in a relationship with the scientist played by Noami Ackie his most famous work is social network a film i have always loved so I'm definitely on board for his casting. Everything i have learned about this film has made immensely more excited for it and i love that DC Studios is taking more ambitious risks like a clayface film that's low budget horror rated R. It is good to see comic book films take risks again and i think if this good this will score big with the casual audience. Overall i have completely flipped the script on this film with the castings and the direction of the story i am now fairly excited to see how this shapes and honestly think it is a huge step in the right direction for DC Studios.
