This will be a touchy subject for most of you and i am well aware what the word Socialist brings so first we will give background knowledge on socialism as a whole first, Then we will dive into what Latveria is like in the comics and how that pertains to real life socialism. Socialism is honestly not a hard concept to grasp it is essentially about putting the power back into the hands of the people and the community rather than corporate interest. Many prominent civil rights figures like Martin Luther King jr, Malcom X, and Fred Hampton as well as the black panther party as a whole were anti-capitalist and more left leaning socialists. Socialism is not a new day it has been around forever it is has had a resurgence in the past year but is not a new day in fact some would say that the biggest socialist politician Zorhan Mamdani is not pushing socialism enough mainly because he is a democratic socialists, and some view that as still being in some way connected to the capitalist system of America. I really want to make this known being a socialists does not mean being a liberal or a democrat because they still believe in the capitalist system and still serve it. Socialism means freedom from capitalism liberal or democrat means we can make it with capitalism. The fundamental foundation that pushed so many socialist movements was rejecting anything capitalist because it served corporate interest over the same people they were fighting for. The belief in socialism is that capitalism has failed and the only way for the people to get back on top to is to replace the system. I know you are reading this wondering when the hell is he gonna get to doctor doom and Latveria, well you are in luck cause you have made it to this section. DOCTOR DOOM IS NOT A SOCIALIST he is at best a moderate progressive at worst he is a egoistical manosphere republican. I know this may seem like well why did you write this article then and i get that but i think some of you need to realize what progressive versus socialist is Latveria is an incredibly progressive nation they have free healthcare no crime low poverty realistically we look a this and say well shit they have it all what more can we ask for this is exactly what we have been wanting right. The people Love Doom he is admired for what he does for them and it seems like he can honestly do no wrong, However if we peel back the layers and compare this to socialism i have to ask you is this country really as free as it seems? The reality is that the people of Latveria have little to no power if none at all, I understand that doom has done great things for them but still doom is the dictator of Latveria at the end of the day every single decision good or bad goes through him. This is the key difference here Latveria is a communist country the people love doom and what he has done but everything still belongs to him at the end of the day. This is why i consider Latveria to be communist vs socialist now to be fair these two are very similar in many ways the main difference i am using here is the state control aspect of communism. Like i have stated throughout this article socialism is essentially about giving power back to the people communism is also about that but the state controls and distributes everything. In the context of Latveria Dr Doom would be the "state" and he controls and distributes everything. Now honestly i think doom does a great job with distribution the goods within Latveria he is also a ego driven mad man who believes that he is the only one who can run the world correctly. If Latveria had democracy on top of everything doom has provided then i could see making the point that the country is some type of socialist utopia. Doom does have a dying love for his country and his people but in the end he loves himself more. He will always put his own ambitions and goals over the people, This does not mean he will not protect them or provide them with what they need but in the end if its himself or his people he will choose himself 10x over.
